Everything You Will Need to Buy Your Car at Honda Kingsport, in Kingsport, TN

Your Driver’s License:

This one seems common sense since you need it on you at all times when driving, but it will also act as your valid form of identification to begin the purchasing process. The only exceptions to this rule are customers who have already test-driven one of our vehicles. If so, we will already have your information on file. Otherwise, bring your driver’s license.

Your Social Security Number:

If you don’t have it memorized already, please bring your social security card or an image of it that you can reference. Even if you are buying the vehicle outright -- without any financing -- we will still need your SSN for tax purposes as nearly all financial transactions valued at over $10,000 are required to be reported to the IRS.

Proof of Insurance:

You MUST have car insurance to purchase a car. This is true for all 50 states, so there are no exceptions. Not only is insurance important for you personally, it also protects everyone else on the road as well. If for some reason you don’t have any, please take the necessary steps to get insured as soon as possible.

Your Wallet:

As much as we’d like to, we at Honda Kingsport can’t just give away cars for free. You’ll have to pay for your new ride somehow, whether that payment comes by way of financing, cash, cashier’s check or credit card. Keep in mind that, even when leasing, you will usually still have to make some kind of a down payment.

Proof of Employment, Residence and Salary:

Depending on your credit rating, you might need to bring these things with you. If you haven’t checked your credit score recently, you should plan on bringing these documents, just to be safe.

Set Aside a Chunk of Time:

The car buying process can take up to a few hours, particularly if you’re applying for financing. This is not something that you can get done on your lunch break. The good part is if you bring all of these things, it will be time well spent when you drive off our lot with your brand-new car!

If You’re Trading In Your Old Car, You Will Also Need:

A Trade-in Appraisal:

Oftentimes, you will have already had your appraisal performed at the dealership that you’re trading your car in to. Typically, these appraisals will be good for up to three days.

Your Old Car’s Title:

Once you get rid of your old vehicle successfully, you’ll have to turn the title over. This is necessary because, by trading in your vehicle, you are releasing ownership of your old vehicle.
